Nestled in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, within the enchanting Snowmass Village of Colorado, lies a trove of archaeological wonders that has captivated scientists and enthusiasts for decades—the Snowmass Ice Age site. This prehistoric gem, dating back to the Pleistocene epoch, has unearthed a treasure trove of fossils and insights into the ancient world, offering a glimpse into the lives of creatures that once roamed the Earth over 50,000 years ago. The Snowmass Ice Age Project began in 2010 when a bulldozer operator stumbled upon a bone during construction activities in Snowmass Village. This discovery triggered the excavation of an extensive Ice Age fossil site, unveiling the remains of ancient creatures like mammoths, mastodons, and giant ground sloths. The findings at Snowmass have enriched our understanding of the Pleistocene era, contributing valuable data to the scientific community.
To commemorate and share the remarkable discoveries made at this site, Snowmass turned to BLKDG to create a cutting-edge website that promises to transport visitors through time. The design crafted by BLKDG for the Snowmass Ice Age Project website sets the stage for an immersive journey through time. Inspired by the natural splendor of the Colorado Rockies, it immerses visitors in a visually stunning landscape that captures the essence of this prehistoric wonderland. With a harmonious color palette, blending earthy tones and icy blues, the design evokes a profound sense of history. Navigating the website is a seamless experience, thanks to its intuitive layout and well-organized menu. Visitors can effortlessly access key sections such as “The Discovery,” “The People,” and “The Fossils.” Whether you’re a paleontology enthusiast, a student, or a casual visitor, the website caters to individuals of all interests and knowledge levels.
In addition to the website, BLKDG has developed an exciting mobile feature—an interactive AR app. This app allows users to bring an Ice Age creature, the Mastadon, to life through their mobile devices. By simply pointing their smartphone or tablet cameras, users can witness this ancient being in their own living room, offering an unparalleled interactive experience. BLKDG’s creation of the Snowmass Ice Age Project website and the addition of the interactive AR app demonstrate the power of digital technology in rekindling history.
